FAQ
What India travel vaccinations I will need prior to my trip?
Prior to your trip to India, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the following travel vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, Polio, and Japanese Encephalitis. Be aware that the rabies vaccination is only recommended to travelers that will be performing outdoors activities, such as camping, biking, or hiking. If you will have contact with animals while in India, then rabies vaccination is also advised. The Japanese Encephalitis vaccination should be given only to those travelers that will visit certain rural parts of India. This information should never serve as a substitution for a consult with a travel doctor, as different factors can affect which vaccination one should receive. Our doctor at the Travel Clinic of New York will determine what vaccinations you will need depending your medical history and previous immunizations.
Is it mandatory to get all India travel vaccinations?
No. All India travel vaccinations mentioned previously are recommended and are given to provide the traveler with security against dangerous infections present in South East Asia, which under certain situations can cause life threatening health issues. Not getting any vaccination will not prevent you from entering the country, but your travel health should be something worth investing in and at the Travel Clinic NY we can provide you with peace of mind while traveling.
What protection is available against Malaria?
As of now, there is no available vaccination to prevent malaria infections. However, antimalarial medication can be taken to protect the traveler. It should be noted that no antimalarial drug is 100% effective, but any protection is better than none. Whether you need malaria medication or not depends on the specific area of India you will be traveling to. During your consultation at the Travel Center NY, our doctor will assess the malaria risk of your destination and prescribe antimalarial medication when necessary.
How far in advance do I need to get my India travel vaccination done?
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), travelers should get their vaccination for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, Polio, and Japanese Encephalitis at least 4-6 weeks prior to traveling to India. Planning all vaccinations ahead of time is preferable, but you should still schedule last-minute travel consultations, as certain vaccinations can still provide worthwhile immunization. Our doctor at the Travel Clinic NYC can also provide you with anti malaria drugs, other medications, and travel health tips to protect yourself during the trip.
What other travel health preparations do I need aside from getting India travel vaccinations?
In addition to getting the recommended India travel vaccination, travelers can be given medication to prevent many other conditions they may experience while abroad, such as traveler’s diarrhea, motion sickness, altitude sickness, jet lag, etc. Do not overlook any of these conditions only because they are not life threatening, as they can make a difference in your travel health and experience.
Where can I obtain India travel vaccinations?

What will happen during my travel health consultation at the Travel Clinic of New York?
At your consultation, the board certified doctor at the Travel Clinic NY will provide you with an in-depth analysis of your traveling destination, itinerary, and planned activities to determine which vaccination you will need and benefit from and if there are any health precautions you might need. Once all your travel health needs have been established, you will be administered the vaccinations and given prescriptions to prevent any other illnesses.
Will my health insurance cover these travel vaccinations?
Unfortunately, your India travel vaccinations will not be covered by health insurance. Traveling is something we choose to do; therefore health insurances consider this as something that is not a medical necessity. However, your health insurance will be able to provide coverage to any written prescription given for your trip, such as antimalarial drugs, anti-diarrhea, motion sickness, etc. The Travel Clinic NYC will still provide you with an itemized receipt with all necessary medical codes so you can try to submit all your travel vaccination to your health care insurance for potential reimbursement.
What is the cost of the India vaccination at the Travel Clinic NYC?
We understand how important all these travel vaccinations are for your trip to India and have in mind that these will not be covered by your insurance, therefore we do our best to provide you the protection you need at very reasonable prices. (See our full travel vaccination price list). A $65 fee will be charge for the travel consultation and administration of all vaccines- this is a non-waivable fee, even if patients know beforehand what vaccination they will need, as this is also a vaccination administration fee.
