As an older person, I receive a flu vaccine every year. Sometimes the doctors seem to be rude or uncaring to some degree. I can say with confidence that at Travel Clinic of NY this is NOT the case. Dr. Fuzayloff was so nice and made me feel twenty years younger! If you need a flu shot, this is the place to visit! And their location next to Grand Central Station makes them easy to get to.

Who needs a seasonal flu shot?

The flu shot is recommended for anyone who wants to reduce the likelihood of becoming ill with flu or spreading influenza to others.

Why get a flu vaccine?

The flu is highly infectious and is a serious viral respiratory infection. Whereas with other viral respiratory infections the symptoms usually are mild and most people can continue working or going to school while ill, with the flu, the symptoms are severe and prolonged and cause individuals to miss days of work or school. The infection stresses the body. In addition, superinfections may occur. Superinfections are bacterial infections that occur on top of a respiratory infection. Bacterial respiratory infections also are a serious type of infection, and the simultaneous viral and bacterial infection can overwhelm the function of the lungs and the body.

When to get vaccinated

The flu season usually occurs from about November until April. Typically, activity is very low until December, and peak activity most often occurs between January and March. The flu vaccine should be administered between September and mid November.

How long after administration will one be protected from flu?

It takes about one to two weeks after vaccination for antibody against influenza to develop and provide protection.

How flu vaccine works?

The Flu vaccines work by causing antibodies to develop in your body. These antibodies provide protection against infection from the flu virus.
