What to Expect at Your Travel Clinic Appointment
Here's what to expect at a travel clinic appointment at Travel Clinic NY in Midtown Manhattan. Most visits take about 20 minutes: you check in, a doctor reviews your health form and your trip, you get your shots, and any prescriptions go to your pharmacy. The office visit fee is $90 per person, once per trip.
Walk-ins are welcome, and every traveler is seen by a doctor, not a PA or nurse practitioner.
Do I Need an Appointment for a Travel Clinic?
No, but booking is the fastest way to be seen. Book online or call (212) 696-5900 to pick your time, and same-day appointments are often available. You can also walk in any time before closing, and you will be seen. Booked patients go first, though, so a walk-in may have to wait. You don't need a referral from your own doctor.
What Happens at Your Travel Clinic Appointment
- 1Check in. Enter your personal details on the iPad at the front desk. Then fill in a short paper form with your medicines, allergies and health history. The doctor reads it before your visit.
- 2See the doctor. Tell the doctor where you're going and when. Already know what you need? Say so at the start, and the visit stays short. Not sure? The doctor advises only the vaccines and medicines your trip needs.
- 3Get your shots. We give your vaccines at the same visit. Getting the yellow fever vaccine? We fill in, stamp and sign your yellow card before you leave.
- 4Prescriptions go to your pharmacy. The doctor sends malaria pills, traveler's diarrhea antibiotics, altitude sickness medicine, or the oral typhoid or cholera vaccine to the pharmacy you choose, and you pick them up there.
- 5Pay and go. Pay at the front desk on your way out, and take your receipt.
What Doesn't Happen at the Visit
There's no physical exam and no blood draw. If you think you're already immune to measles, chickenpox or polio, the doctor can give you a lab order for a titer blood test, which checks your immunity. You go to a Quest or Northwell lab, your health insurance covers the test, and results are usually back in 1 to 2 days.
There's no fee if you need to cancel or reschedule.
What to Bring
Nothing is required. You don't need an ID, a passport or any records to be seen. These help if you have them:
- your old yellow card
- any vaccine records
- where you're going and your travel dates
- the names of your medicines and allergies, for the health form
- your passport, if you're getting a yellow card, so the name on it matches
What You Pay at Your Visit
- Office visit fee: $90 per person, once per trip. Vaccines are priced separately; see every travel vaccine price.
- Coming back for more vaccines for the same trip, including a later dose of a series? You pay only for the vaccines.
- Prescriptions are paid at your pharmacy, where your health insurance may cover them.
- Payment: cash, debit and FSA/HSA cards pay the listed prices. By credit card, a 3.5% card fee is added. We don't accept checks or Zelle.
- Insurance: we don't bill insurance for travel vaccines or the visit. We give you paperwork to send to your insurer, but only some insurers pay it back.

When to Come In Before Your Trip
The CDC encourages travelers to get pre-travel care at least a month before they leave. Some vaccines take more than one dose, spaced days, weeks or months apart, so coming in early gives you time to finish the series.
Leaving soon? Come in anyway. The CDC says it's never too late for a pre-travel visit, and vaccines still help even when given close to departure. Some vaccines also have a faster, approved schedule for last-minute travelers.

- Anyone under 18 must come with a parent or guardian.
- Some vaccines we give only to adults, so call (212) 696-5900 before you bring a child.
- Couples and families can be seen together at one visit. Each person pays their own visit fee.

We're at 35 W 36th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenue, a short walk from Herald Square, Penn Station, Bryant Park and Grand Central. We're open weekday afternoons and on Saturdays; the exact hours are below.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a consultation before my travel vaccines?
No. There's no separate consultation or consultation fee. If you have questions, the doctor answers them at the same visit.
